What is organic growth?

Organic means you get your newsletter or website subscribers for free.

In short, every method that helps you gain subscribers without spending money is called organic growth (like social media, lead magnets on your website, etc.).

Here are 7 methods to grow your email list through organic means.

1. Put the newsletter at the end

The first is putting your newsletter at the end of the free, valuable content you post on social media. Almost all creators use this way.

Their platforms may vary, but their goal is the same: using social media to grow your email list.

This method is how I have built my list (using LinkedIn, Medium, etc.)

Tip: Create an appealing landing page that makes people want to sign up.

2. Optimize your social media bios

The second step is to optimize your social media bios with a clear CTA to join your newsletter or website.

For example:

â—Ź If you are using IG, create an IG Story highlight.

â—Ź On LinkedIn, use the LinkedIn Featured section card.

â—Ź On Medium, add a CTA to your bio to invite readers, etc.

3. Swap with other creators

Here is a sheet link to different newsletter creators (especially newbies).

Many small and large communities help creators connect. They can promote each other in their newsletters using collaborations. All you have to do is reach potential creators who are in similar niche to you.

Many writers, content creators, founders, etc. collab in this way to grow together.

Because it’s like free marketing; you market others, and others market you to their audience for free.

Win-Win, right?

🚀Pro Hack: You don't need to be in the same space to collaborate. As a blogger or writer, you can team up with a YouTuber or TikTok creator who has a similar audience. The same goes for them!

4. Create a lead magnet (freebie)

Have you noticed a creator offering an eBook or a mini-course to anyone who signs up for their website or newsletter? That is a lead magnet.

You can create a lead magnet for readers and exchange it for their email.

  • Here are some good examples of lead magnets, courtesy of HubSpot.

  • You can promote your lead magnet on IG stories, LinkedIn's Featured section, or in bios on other platforms.

  • If you can, try to build a pop-up on your website highlighting your lead magnet. When someone subscribes to you, they will get the freebie.

  • Use a limited-time promotion to boost your newsletter email growth. It can be a game changer! For example, consider a New Year planner.

5. Create a referral engine

The 5th way is to create a referral engine within your emails.

This strategy lets your current subscribers access resources. They can do this by referring others to your newsletter.

For example: Refer 5 people; you will receive an affiliate eBook, etc.

If you use ConvertKit or Beehiiv, Sparkloop can boost your referral program easily or you can create manually create setup on these platform.

6. Use a pre-promotion post

One of the internet creators who use this strategy is Justin Welsh.

In my eyes, he is ELITE at this. What he does is use a pre-promotion post the day before his actual post. This helps him draw the reader’s attention to his post before it even goes live.

He used the same strategy to promote his course, which crossed $1M+ in sales on Gumroad.

If you are really close to your audience, this is one of the best ways to make them curious about your upcoming work and build momentum early on.

7. Use an after-publish promotion

The last is to use an after-publish promotion on the day of sending, which many creators, including me, do.

I almost always after-publish promote my newsletter post with a LinkedIn or Twitter/X share.

For example:

“I just published this awesome email about growing your business.

Here’s what I shared…”

What is inorganic growth?

Inorganic is the complete opposite of organic growth because it involves money. Many internet creators reinvest their creator revenue back into newsletter growth.

Between organic and inorganic, inorganic is the fastest method to grow your email list.

Below are 3 powerful methods for achieving inorganic growth.

  1. The most common one, using paid advertisements (like FB ads, TikTok ads, etc.).

  2. Using fixed-fee advertising in other creators channels. Many platforms like Swapstack, Sparkloop, etc. ease this service. But you should be willing to pay $1.50 or $2 per subscriber.

  3. Newsletter Agency (can help you acquire high-quality subscribers)

And that’s all for today.

See you next Wednesday.
